collaborate and study together. I
also wanted it to better allow for small group discussions organized by the
students."
All these goals had to be accomplished within budget. "Kimball Office and its
Select dealership Munson Business Interiors worked diligently to give us
exactly what we wanted in terms of look, function, quality, and value," said
Angela Johnson, Senior Interior Designer for the University of Louisville.
The Kimball Office Solution
The Center’s new space features staff offices, a "green" room for guest
speakers, seminar and lecture areas, student workstations, and a special
section for themed exhibits and displays. It is also equipped with the latest
technology. But it’s the abundance of natural light and the rich glow of the
wood furniture that make the McConnell Center an especially inviting place to
work and study.
"Each staff office has a window wall that looks out on green space," explains
Ms. Johnson, "maximizing daylight and visually linking the Center and our
students to the rest of the campus. The offices are also more comfortable and
engaging because there’s almost twice the work space than before and the
furniture is both functional and beautiful.'
Dr. Gregg couldn’t agree more. "The furniture is perfect. It strikes the right
balance between sophistication and functionality and helps the staff and
students feel that they are part of a truly valued program doing important
things for the campus and the community."
Innsbruck casegoods and Muirfield executive seating distinguish the director and
guest speaker offices. Finished in a warm autumn cherry, the line’s
neo-classical look creates a stately environment that is at once decorous and
intimate.
The sophisticated tone carries through to the staff offices, which include
Evoke, a technology-efficient casegood series, and Wish task seating. Student
areas are outfitted with laminate Footprint workstations with wood trim. A
meeting room with an Innsbruck conference table and Muirfield chairs invites
political debate.
Viewed as a whole, the new space reflects and reinforces the McConnell Center’s
important mission. The wood furniture and historic color palette create a sense
of place, while the spacious offices and collaborative areas foster student and
staff interaction.
"Everyone loves the new Center," says Dr. Gregg. "Thanks to the dedicated
support of our patrons and the hard work of our design team, there are few
better places to work and study on this or any other campus."
